Wednesday (Netflix)
Where to go: Romania
Discover of the day: The iconic Addams Family returned to screens last fall with a wild storyline and gloomy scenery – everything fans love. What’s especially cool is that the series was filmed at actual locations, making it possible (and necessary) to plan a trip to the filming sites.
The Cantacuzino Castle in Romania served as the filming location for the mysterious Nevermore Academy in one of the most popular shows on Netflix. The castle added to the show’s drama, but fans of Wednesday should not be misled by this.
The Cantacuzino Castle is situated in the mountainous town of Bușteni (Strada Zamorei 1). Despite being built in the early 20th century, it retains its luxurious appearance and is surrounded by a park featuring waterfalls, grottoes, and fountains. The castle is open for visits all year round and is used for exhibitions as well as event rentals.
In addition to the castle, other locations in Romania served as filming sites for the interiors of Nevermore Academy. Casa Monteoru in Bucharest (Calea Victoriei 115) is more in line with the mood of the series. The locations visited by the characters in Wednesday also include the Polytechnic University (Splaiul Independenței 313, Bucharest), the Botanical Garden (Șoseaua Cotroceni 32, Bucharest), the Dynamo-Tolya Grincescu swimming pool (Șoseaua Ștefan cel Mare 7-9, Bucharest), and the Royal Railway Station Sinai (Sinaia).
White Lotus (HBO)
Where to go: Hawaii, Sicily
“White Lotus” – a series that explores class conflict and modern colonialism and follows the adventures of the wealthy, made a splash in the media. Despite being produced and filmed in a short time, it did not sacrifice any quality in its production.
“White Lotus” – a series about class conflict and modern colonialism, which is a depiction of the adventures of the rich, made a big impact in the media. Despite being created and shot quickly, its production quality was not compromised. The locations used in the first and second seasons are real. The first season was shot in Hawaii, at the luxurious Four Seasons Maui Hotel (3900 Wailea Alanui Dr, Kihei), followed by Sicily and the famous San Domenico Palace (Piazza S. Domenico de Guzman, 5, 98039 Taormina ME). Although director Mike White transformed these locations to fit the theme of White Lotus in both seasons, they still retain their luxurious vibe even after filming (at rates starting from €9,000).
By the way, another location has been added to the list, which recently became available on Airbnb – this is the villa that Harper and Daphne fled to in the third episode of the second season. It looks luxurious as well. So the trip is going to be very “luxurious” (just as in the script).
Money Heist (Netflix)
Where to go: Spain
The “Paper House” series has become one of the most popular Spanish TV shows in recent years. Are you eagerly anticipating the next season as well?
Please note that searching for the Royal Mint and the Bank of Spain will not yield the correct filming locations for the popular Spanish TV series “Paper House”. Other locations were used for the filming.
In the first season of “Paper House,” the iconic building of the Higher Center for Scientific Research was used as the location where people in Dali masks “captured” it. The building’s memorable facade can be seen on Serrano Street (C. de Serrano, 117).
In the third season, instead of the city center Bank of Spain, the buildings of Nuevos Ministerios (Paseo de la Castellana, 63) were used. The administration of Nuevos Ministerios, in fact, offered Netflix the location for filming for free.
The series “Money Rain” was filmed in the local Times Square, Plaza del Callao. The skyscrapers over which a full airship of banknotes flies are known as the “Four Towers”, located on Paseo de la Castellana, which is a business district.
Emily in Paris (Netflix)
Where to go: France
The new season of “Emily in Paris” has made the whole world fall in love with the European capital once again. While detractors are still trying to argue that Paris is not depicted accurately on Netflix, true fans of the series are undeterred.
In the internet, you can find numerous tours that take you to the main filming locations in the streets of Paris, guided by guides who offer their services for a donation. And in this selection, you will find the most significant and impressive places. So, be sure to add it to your map!
The tour starts at Place de l’Estrapade, where Emily’s apartment is located. Just a stone’s throw away is the restaurant Terra Nera (8 Rue des Fossés Saint-Jacques), which, as per the storyline, is owned by Emily’s neighbor Gabrielle. Close by is the Modern Bakery with “the most delicious pain au chocolat” (which, by the way, is also a favorite among locals).
The Savoir office is located near the Galerie Patrick Fourtin antique shop and is situated on Place Valois, just a few meters away from the Louvre Museum. The Jardin du Palais Royale park, where Emily met her future friend Mindy, is also located in the same area. But, we believe that any central street in the city will bring back memories of “Emily in Paris”.
“Emily in Paris” didn’t film all scenes in Paris. If you want to follow the footsteps of the characters, be sure to include Saint-Tropez and Marseille in your itinerary.
Bridgerton (Netflix)
Where to go: UK
Netflix filmed its “most beautiful project” in “the most majestic locations,” according to critics. And we can confirm that the views and images from Bridgerton are indeed stunning! Although the second season of the series was filmed in a studio due to the pandemic, the crew still managed to visit 80 real locations. It might be challenging to fit all of them into one travel itinerary, but at least the most important ones are worth considering.
The main characters’ mansion in the series is actually the “Ranger House” located in the Greenwich area of London (Chesterfield Walk, London SE10 8QX). Over the years, it has been owned by different people, ranging from counts to princesses. In the 21st century, it became the home of the Bridgerton family, but only on the screen. In reality, it is owned by the English State Commission for Historic Buildings and Monuments.
The estate of the Duke of Hastings was filmed at several locations, including the Pembroke Earls’ mansion (80 Tatum St, London SE17 1QR), which has been featured in several shows, the Northumberland Dukes’ mansion (56-60 Hallam St, London W1W 6DA), and the residence of the Dukes of Beauforts (Lodge House, 69 Beaufort St, London SW3 5AH).
Queen Charlotte mostly resides at St. James’s Palace (Marlborough Rd, St. James’s, London SW1A 1BQ) and Buckingham House (London SW1A 1AA). Meanwhile, the Featherington House can be found on the famous Royal Crescent Street in Bath.
In general, a trip to the UK can be rich and luxurious.
Stranger Things (Netflix)
Where to go: Lithuania
For the main filming locations from the popular Netflix series “Stranger Things”, you need to travel to the United States. However, the fourth season which was released last year expanded the filming locations to Vilnius and its surrounding areas. We recommend that devoted fans from Europe visit this location.
The well-known Lukiški Prison serves as a harsh Soviet prison, and it is located in the heart of the Lithuanian capital at Lukiškių skg. 6. Filming took place both inside and outside the building, and anyone can visit it either with a tour or on their own.
The Lithuanian town of Kyviškės was selected as the airfield in Alaska for the show. Of course, in reality, there is no “Yuri’s Fish’n’Fly” sign. The town of Semelishkes served as an unnamed village in Kamchatka. This is where a warehouse was set up in a church building (the real St. Nicholas Church built in 1894-1895). Overall, a visit is definitely worth it for the atmosphere. And don’t miss other highlights, such as the old St. Lawrence Church built in 1774.
We have already talked about all the locations in detail in this article. You can re-read – suddenly missed (a).
Sisi (RTL+)
Where to go: Lithuania
The TV series “Sisi” is a recent German production that tells the story of Empress Elisabeth of Austria. The first season of the series was filmed in Lithuania, making your film journey through the country even more diverse. Empress Elisabeth’s story is a popular subject in movies and TV shows, and this is yet another attempt to retell it.
Elizabeth had a difficult life. She grew up in a challenging environment and at the age of 15, she was married to the emperor, whom she did not love. Her only son tragically shot himself, causing her to become melancholic and wanderlust, constantly moving from one country to another in search of something she could never find.
And despite the criticism for historical inaccuracies, it’s difficult to criticize the locations used in the series. The old city of Vilnius stood in for Vienna of the 19th century. The sharp gate, Lithuanian National Philharmonic (Aušros Vartų g. 5), Vilnius University (Universiteto g. 3), and St. John’s Church (Šv. Jono g. 12) were all featured in the film.
